Dr. Heir is a past President and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial, Past-President and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain, and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He is a Professor, Clinical and Program Director of the Center for Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain of Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine and Director of the Post Graduate Advanced Education and Masters Programs.
He is Past Chair of the Written Examination Council of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and President elect, the Section Editor for Pain Updates of the Journal of the Amerian Dental Association and serves as the editor of the Orofacial Pain Fact Sheets for the International Association for the Study of Pain web page.
Dr. Heir serves on The Commission on Dental Accreditation’s (CODA) Review Committee on Advanced Dental Education in General Dentistry, General Practice Residency, Dental Anesthesiology, Oral Medicine and Orofacial Pain Education, is a CODA site inspector and Member of the Commission on Dental Education and Licensure (CDEL) of the American Dental Association, CE Quality Control Subcommittee. He also is a member of many professional organizations devoted to the study and diagnosis of pain disorders, has published papers, chapters and abstracts on topics related to the field of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain, and serves on several editorial boards of peer reviewed journals. Dr. Heir was appointed to the New Jersey Governors Council for Lyme Disease and serviced as its vice chair. He is the first author of the nationally accepted Post Graduate Core Curriculum in Orofacial Pain.
