Translational research is changing the way we do patient care and will influence how we teach orofacial pain in the future. There has not been another time in history where bench to bedside settings have been closer with the emergence of precision medicine. In addition, exciting new targets for the management of chronic pain disorders are being explored in diverse orofacial pain disorders. This is very promising for orofacial pain research, prevention and management, because we have known firsthand for a long time the need for a more individualized medicine, as well as the need for more effective and safer therapies, since the available modalities of treatment are not optimal for every patient. In this lecture, it will be discussed some of the current therapies and exciting potential emerging targets that may influence our current standard modalities of care
