Meet our Panel –

Dr. Crandall completed his dental training at Temple University School of Dentistry in 1974 and the General Practice Dental Residency at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in 1975. In 1984 Dr. Crandall received a Certificate for completion of the extended program in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Crandall has maintained a referral-based practice limited to TMD and Orofacial Pain since 1984. He is a member of the Attending Staff in Surgery and a preceptor for the General Practice Dental Residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain (OFP) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and the International College of Dentists. He was President of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain in 2010-2011 and served as acting president for the AAOP in 2011-2012. Dr. Crandall is serving on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Orofacial Pain as well as the Board of Directors of the American Board of Dental Specialties from 2014 to 2020. He has presented many programs on a local and national level and has served as a planner for several national courses presented by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain.

Daniele Manfredini received his DDS from the University of Pisa, Italy in 1999, a MSc in Occlusion and Craniomandibular Disorders in 2001 from the same University, a PhD in Dentistry from the ACTA Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2011, and a Post-Graduation Specialty in Orthodontics from the University of Ferrara, Italy, in 2017. He was a clinical fellow at the Section of Prosthetic Dentistry, Department of Neuroscience, University of Pisa, Italy until 2005. Since 2006, Daniele Manfredini has been Assistant Professor and coordinator of the research projects at the TMD Clinic, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Padova, Italy, and he held teachings in Prosthodontics and TMJ Physiopathology, and in Bruxism and Parafunctions at the School of Dentistry, University of Padova until 2016.
Currently, Daniele Manfredini holds teaching in Oral Physiology and in Clinical Gnathology at the School of Dentistry, University of Siena, Italy. On January 2017, the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) appointed him as a Full Professor by scientific merit at the age of 41. Daniele Manfredini authored more than 190 papers in the field of bruxism and temporomandibular disorders in journals indexed in the Medline database (Scopus H-index=34). He also edited, among the others, the book “Current concepts on temporomandibular disorders” (Quintessence Publishing, 2010), including contributions from 45 world-renowned experts, and co-authored several textbooks on the same topics.

Joseph R. Cohen DDS is founder of Southwest Orofacial Group, formerly known as Southwest Pain Management Associates. He manages our Orofacial Pain Program. His practice focuses on orofacial pain including atypical tooth pain and headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, temporomandibular joint disorders as well as oral appliance treatment of sleep apnea. Dr. Cohen is board certified by the American Board of Orofacial Pain, and is past president of that board.

He is a member of many professional organizations including the American Dental Association, American Association for the Study of Headaches, American Pain Society, and is past president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Orofacial Pain Center at UCLA. He is also responsible for TMD and Orofacial Pain Education at Arizona School for Dental and Oral Health, a clinical instructor at Midwestern University, College of Osteopathy, Arizona Campus and is one of eight national consultants for the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation assigned as a site reviewer to recommend which TMD/Orofacial Pain Graduate Programs qualify to be accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (A Federal Agency).

Dr. Cohen is a graduate of the University of Arizona and the University of Tennessee Dental School and has been in private practice in Phoenix since 1971. He has authored many articles and has lectured on Craniomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain all over the world. Dr. Cohen is frequently asked to consult by the doctors at the Mayo Clinic regarding treatment of TMD and Orofacial Pain.

Sherwin Arman, D.M.D., M.P.H. is the director of the orofacial pain program at the UCLA School Of Dentistry. He joined the faculty as a Lecturer in 2012 and also had a practice limited to Orofacial Pain. He is involved with the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Orofacial Pain. His interest is to promote Orofacial Pain education to healthcare providers and students as well as the integration of Orofacial Pain education into dental education curricula.
